Categories of Color
  • Primary Colors: Red, Yellow, and Blue.
  • Secondary Colors: Orange, Violet, Green. These colors are a mixture of two primaries.
  • Intermediate Colors: Red Orange, Yellow Green, Blue Violet, ect. Mixing a primary with a secondary creates these.
  • Complementary Colors: Colors that are across each other on the color wheel. Red and Green, Orange and Blue, and Yellow and Purple.
 
Color Harmonies

Color Harmonies: When an artist uses certain combinations of colors that creat different looks or feelings.

  • Analogous Colors: Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. ex: red, red orange, and orange.
  • Triadic Harmony: Where three equally spaced colors on the color wheel are used. ex: red, yellow, blue
  • Monochromatic: One color is used with diffrent values and intensity.
  • Warm Colors: red, yellow, orange.
  • Cool Colors: green, blue, purple
